State Steering Committee for the development of the School Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage and School Education held a meeting on June 20 at SIEMAT Hall, SCERT, Kohima.
The committee, comprising educationists, administrators and academic leaders from various departments and institutions, reviewed and discussed the draft document to finalise the curriculum framework.
SCERT director, Kevirale-ü Kerhuo, gave an overview of the work carried out so far. She said SCERT, as the nodal agency, had formed a working committee with subject experts and representatives from SCERT, NBSE, DIETs, Nagaland University, and other government departments and NGOs. She acknowledged the role of Azim Premji University in shaping the draft through several workshops.
Senior lecturer, SCERT, Vekutulu Veyie, presented the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curriculum, a four-part framework designed for pre-primary levels, including teacher handbooks. She highlighted features from the National Education Policy 2020 such as the 5+3+3+2 system, and the focus on foundational literacy and numeracy.
The draft State Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (SCF-FS), based on NCF-FS 2022, was also presented. The SCF-FS covers ages 3 to 8, including pre-primary and Classes 1 and 2, and promotes play-based, multi-level learning.
The meeting also discussed key areas such as assessment, language and pedagogy. It was chaired by additional director of SCERT, T. Lima Longkumer.
