The MoU would introduce various courses on Veterinary and other related disciplines in the country with the approval of the Board of Management, Central Agriculture University, Imphal.
State chief secretary, Pankaj Kumar said it was a milestone and an achievement for the state and hoped that the process of CAU Veterinary College at Jalukie would start soon with the signing of MoU.
While stating that agriculture was the lifeline for the people of North East, CAU Registrar hoped that through such small intervention by the CAU, the people would benefit in the field of Agriculture.
Though the College of Veterinary Science Nagaland was under CAU Imphal, Dr. Pillai said that the “bifurcation of university” was in the offing, for which proposal would be finalized within this year. He said that the CoVS “might come under” the University in Meghalaya.
He also informed that CoVS would begin its academic session by enrolling around twenty students by July 2016.
However, Dr. Pillai said for Veterinary education, approval from the Veterinary Council of India was required and the functioning of the college “may be delayed” due to paper works and formalities.
He said that the plan was to have a “bifurcated structure” at Peren to start the programme by this year. “If that is not possible, the second plan is to start the first batch at veterinary college Aizwal and shift to Nagaland on the second year”, he said.
Dr. Pillai said that the progress and ultimate result of the proposed plan would be seen “within two or three months”.
As a start, he said that faculty for the college could be taken from the existing CAU, while recruitment for faculty would also be advertised for indigenous habitants of the state.
