State’s first priority should be to impart quality education: CS

Terming education as the most important in tertiary sector (service sector), Nagaland chief secretary, Pankaj Kumar said state’s first priority should be to impart quality education as it would not only help in providing employment opportunities in the state but also enable the students to compete outside the state. He was speaking as the chief guests at the inaugural programme of the three-day “State Level Capacity Building Workshop on PINDICS and Quality Monitoring Tools (OMTS) for project assistant, EBRC Coordinators and Trainers of Teachers (TOTS)” organized by Nagaland Education Mission Society State Mission Authority Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan at SIEMAT training hall, SCERT, Tuesday.   
Pointing out that for a land-locked hill state like Nagaland the economy has certain limitation as well as certain potential, Pankaj said the state has to reply mainly on the service sector as the primary sector (agriculture) and secondary sector (industry) have limitations. Admitting that there are several accumulated problems in education system, he said that enough attention was not paid on what was taught in classrooms. He then highlighted on the need to look at education system as a cohesive entity where quality of education need to improve.  
Delivering short speech, commissioner and secretary school education and SCERT, F.P. Solo lamented that in the process of addressing many problems in the school education department little attention has been given to imparting quality education. He underscored that quality education could improve enrolment of students as well as improve the performance of the school education department.  Short speeches was also delivered by programme coordinator, OMYs department of elementary education NCERT, Prof. Dr. V.P. Singh, welcome address by State Mission Director SMA SSA, Gregory Thejawelie while vote of thanks by Finance Controller SMA SSA, Mhonchumo.
