Dimapur: District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) across Nagaland have announced that the annual Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) will be conducted on April 30, 2026, with mega mock drills and special evening exercises scheduled across the districts.
In Dimapur, the DDMA has identified five sites for the earthquake simulation beginning at 8 a.m.—Government Higher Secondary School, Purana Bazar; Hollotoli School, Naharbari; Westside Store, Darogapathar; Indian Oil (IOCL), Kevijau; and PHC Purana Bazar. Operation Night Guard will be carried out at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Purana Bazar, and East Dimapur Town Council office from 6:30 p.m. Deputy Commissioner & chairman, DDMA Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, has requested the public not to panic during the staged exercise, which is being conducted in the interest of awareness and preparedness.
In Chumoukedima, Deputy Commissioner Polan John, has informed that a state-level mock drill will be conducted from 9 a.m. on April 30. He stated that the exercise aims to enhance emergency response systems and improve coordination among departments and agencies. Residents have been urged to remain calm and extend cooperation to officials and emergency responders during the simulation.
Meanwhile, in Mokokchung, the DDMA in partnership with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) will conduct the 8th edition of NEPEx beginning at 8 a.m. The drill will simulate a dual-disaster scenario involving a major earthquake and extreme weather events at sites including Government High School, Dilong; Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH); the Deputy Commissioner’s Office; and landslide clearance operations at Mokokchung Village.
A special evening drill, Operation Night Guard – Civil Defence Air Raid/Blackout Exercise, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sirens will be activated across the town, and citizens have been requested to switch off non-essential lights for 15 minutes to test preparedness. Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, DDMA Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, has appealed for cooperation, clarifying that the activities are strictly mock exercises aimed at strengthening disaster response mechanisms.
