Nagaland Governor PB Acharya called upon the people of the state to protect and preserve the culture by staying in touch with their roots.
“We must stay in touch with our roots,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion of the People’s Festival Khezhakeno 2018 cum inauguration of Chida Resort at Khezhakeno village under Phek district on Saturday as chief guest, Acharya hoped that the young generation would realise the importance of culture and heritage that made every community and their land unique.
Harping on mother tongues, he urged the youth to preserve one’s own language as it gave a person his or her identity.
He acknowledged the hard work put in by Khezhakeno residents in hosting the inaugural function and hoped the Chida Lake would become a tourist hotspot in the State.
Acharya also presented Governor’s Meritorious Certificates to two outstanding students from Khezhakeno village on the occasion.
In his speech, Planning & Coordination and Land Revenue minister Neiba Kronu expressed his gratitude to the governor for attending the festival. He also lauded the governor for taking various initiatives to promote and preserve cultural identity.
The programme was chaired by additional secretary Kevekha Kevin Zehol, while the welcome address was delivered by Khezhakeno Youth Organisation president Senovielhou Koza. There were cultural performances from various troupes and a traditional blessing was pronounced by the Khezhakeno Village Council chairman.
A brief account of the festival was given by Tenyimia Public Organisation president S Kepfelhou Ladu, while Rengma Hoho president Kenyenseng Tep delivered the greetings.
