In Phek, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Chitale Hiese formally launched the campaign. DPO RMNCH+A+N, Dr. Khriekuolie Liezietsu, highlighted that the initiative aims to achieve zero child deaths due to diarrhoea by promoting hygiene practices and ensuring widespread use of ORS and Zinc among children under five. He informed that the campaign would be implemented in two phases—Preparatory (June 1–15) and Implementation (June 16–July 31)—with strategies including household distribution of ORS and Zinc, strengthening health facilities, intensive SBCC activities, and convergence among stakeholders, with special focus on high risk areas.
In Wokha, Deputy Commissioner K. Mhathung Tsanglao launched the campaign at the CMO’s office conference hall. He described the initiative as a Government of India effort to prevent child deaths due to diarrhoea and urged Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) to disseminate the importance of ORS and Zinc. Praising their dedication, he encouraged them to give their best effort. CMO Dr. Thungchangbemo Ezung stressed that diarrhoea leads to rapid fluid loss and dehydration, especially among children, and urged health workers to conduct home visits, distribute ORS and Zinc, set up ORS corners, and organise health talks. A practical demonstration on ORS preparation was conducted by ASHA Renkhono.
In Zunheboto, the campaign was launched at the DC’s conference hall with Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj as guest of honour. He emphasised the need for greater public awareness and hygiene practices, cautioning against unsafe food and untreated water. He said education was key to reducing diarrhoeal illnesses and saving lives. DPO (RCH & UIP), Dr. Heto Swu, in his keynote address, underscored the importance of timely treatment, particularly for children and the elderly, and noted that even homemade ORS can prevent dehydration and save lives. He outlined campaign objectives including adequate coverage of children suffering from diarrhoea, preventive measures, capacity building of healthcare workers, and public awareness on ORS, zinc supplementation and hand hygiene.
In Longleng, the campaign was officially launched at the CMO conference hall on June 17 by Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom. In his address, Phom highlighted that the campaign focuses on preventing diarrhoeal diseases among children through awareness, preventive measures and community participation. He stressed the importance of spreading awareness through CSOs, ASHA workers and coordinated efforts of line departments, especially during the monsoon season. He also underlined the role of teachers and educational institutions in educating students on hygiene practices. Phom Peoples Council president Y. B. Angam urged the medical department to use church and community platforms to disseminate information on diarrhoea management, particularly the importance of ORS and Zinc.
