Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF) has extended support to the representations by Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) and urged the State government to expedite the matter of upgrading Shamator town to a full-fledged district and fulfil the long-cherished aspirations of the Yimkhiungs as assured.
STPF president S Yanhokiu and general secretary K Hankiu recalled that the council had been relentless entreating for upgrading Shamator town to a full-fledged district since past several years.
On several occasions, they said the council had submitted and apprised the State government on the matter, to which the latter had in principle also assured to the Yimkhiung of doing the needful.
They therefore requested the government to fulfil its commitment at the earliest both in letter and spirit.
Claiming that it was the desire of Yimkhiungs to live under one administrative headquarter, STPF urged the government to incorporate all Yimkhiung administrative headquarters in the proposed Shamator district, as stated in the representation of YTC.
Further, they mentioned that Yimkhiung community had held a public referendum on December 2 and 3 at Shamator town and Pungro towns respectively, which unanimously reaffirmed their resolute stand for upgrading Shamator ADC headquarters to district headquarters wholeheartedly without any condition.
STPF therefore urged the state government to look into the matter and expedite its implementation at the earliest, adding justice delayed was justice denied.
