Street play on Reproductive and Sexual Health for Adolescent was conducted on February 2 in Lonthonger (Green village) under Kiphire district. The programme was initiated by District Health Society in collaboration with Adolescent Club and Longthonger Youth.
The programme was chaired by Dr. A Amos Sangtam (MO/SHP), while the street play was performed by the Adolescent Club along with Longthonger youth on the theme ‘Early marriage and drug abuse.’
Ahieto Tase, District Programme Manager (NHM), also highlighted the impact on the society due to early marriage, by giving some facts and figures of the district particularly on women getting married below the age of 19 years. He also urged the youth to avail the services provided at the two designated ARSH clinics in District Hospital, Kiphire, and Community Health Centre (CHC) Pungro.
Dr. Dheni (Epidemiologist) also shared topics on early pregnancy and menstrual hygiene, while Dr. A Amos shared short speech on WIFS.
Meanwhile, Longthonger village council chairman has thanked the Medical Department for carrying out the awareness programme which not only benefited the adolescent but also the community.
In a related programme, street play on adolescent health issues was conducted at Phek town by Adolescent Club, Phek February 3. The play was to create awareness on the service available at Adolescent Friendly health Clinic (AFHC) and on menstrual hygiene.
The club performed plays in three different junctions by disseminating the information of AFHC, which provides treatment, counselling and referral. The programme was attended by Dr.Vibinuo Medical Officer (RBSK) and IEC team.
Meanwhile, Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kohima, along with District Health Society Adolescent Club in line with Adolescent Reproductive & Sexual Health (ARSH) organized a street play on WIFS with a purpose to inculcate a healthy fitness life style amongst the youth at Jotsoma village council hall on February 3.
The programme was attended by village chairman, secretary, GBs, women chairman, ASHAs, Deputy MEIO, MO, SHP co-ordinator, DCM and media officer. Altogether 30 people attended the programme.
During the programme, the members were sensitized on adolescent health, the physical and the emotional changes that happen during this period.
Speaking at the programme (MO) RBSK Dr. Medozhatuo Keretsü delivered health talk on WIFS to impart anemia problems, dangers of early pregnancy, hygienic issues etc.
