
Along with the rest of the country, banking services in Nagaland was affected in view of the two-day bank strike called by United Forum of Bank Unions.
The strike was called under the banner of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine bank unions, including All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) to press for wage revision pending since November 2017.
However, private sector lenders like ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank were operational.
Bank employees held demonstrations outside their respective banks.
In Mokokchung town, bank employees held a protest outside SBI, Regional Business office.
CCM of the State Bank of India Officers’ Association (NEC) urged upon all the employees to cooperate with the UFBU.
He also expressed concern that the strike was unavoidable to draw the attention of the IBA and the government to resolve the wage revision and other legitimate demands.
SBI Wokha branch employees also staged protest at Wokha Town. Regional president of SBIOA Mokokchung region Yansaromo T. Lotha briefed the members about the ongoing protest and the charter of demands.
All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBA) Saturday informed that around 31 lakh cheques amounting to Rs 23,000 crore remained uncleared across the country on the first day of the strike.
