State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, in association with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, organised a six-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) programme on the topic “Value addition in fruits and vegetables”, from December 2 to 7.
Resource persons for the training program were Assistant Horticulture Specialist & Post Harvest Technology in charge, Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, Dr. Moasosang Longkumer, and Deputy Project Director SAMETI and STRY Nodal Officer, Tiajungla Longchar.
At the inaugural program, Deputy Project Director SAMETI and STRY Nodal Officer, Tiajungla Longchar delivered an overview of the STRY programme and welcomed participants.
In her inaugural speech, Director SAMETI & Principal IETC, Medziphema, Dr Watimongla Jamir, highlighted the importance of eliminating post harvest losses in fruits and vegetables through value addition. She also opined that value addition can generate huge entrepreneurial opportunities for the unemployed youth.
The training programme covered topics on preparation of green chilli pickle in oil preparation of ginger candy, preparation of carambola (star fruit) RTS, preparation of banana chips and Packaging, labeling and Storage of processed products.
Certificates were distributed to the participants at the end of the training program. A total of 20participants were trained.
