Student bodies hold conferences and session

Several student bodies including youth organisation conducted their respective conferences and session during the holiday season. Following are the reports from Aboi Area Students’ Union, Satoi Range Students Union and Phek Village Youth Organisation,  . 

33rd AASU general session: Aboi Area Students’ Union (AASU) 33rd general session-cum-cultural, literary & sports meet kicked off at local ground, Ngangching village, under the theme “Together with new vision” on Tuesday. 

According to AASU media cell, minister of Higher & Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along graced the inaugural programme and cultural day as special guest. He expressed gratitude to AASU president and his colleagues and all the students present. He encouraged them to play and study well and do it consistently with discipline and build up the Naga society. He said that one may not be able to contribute goal or silver, but can contribute to the society through hard work.            

The minister was accompanied by deputy commissioner Mon Thavaseelan K, additional deputy commissioner Aboi, joint director Higher Education, Menukholie Kire, and Er. Kelie EE School Education, district president, BJP Mon district, Mankhao Konyak, OSD to CM, and chairperson NSCPCR.

 Shahang, the first KU president Aboi unit and the vice chairman Adhoc Town Committee Aboi also encouraged the students to put more effort in their studies and compete with the world. He also requested the gazetted officers from Aboi area to attend such programmes to encourage the students. Ango, chairman Ngangching Village Council also delivered a short speech.

 Earlier, the minister was received by the AASU cultural troops and took salute from NVG Ngangching village. He also unfurled the AASU flag, while the Konyak anthem was sung by Ngangching Bumeinok choir. Welcome address was delivered by AASU president. The programme was chaired by H. Nginying Konyak

Temjen also visited polytechnic building construction at Aboi. Chairperson of Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Awan Konyak shared the grievances of Aboi public. The session will continue till January 18.

SRSU 43rd biennial general conference: The 43rd biennial general conference of Satoi Range Students Union (SRSU) which commenced on January 4 under the theme “Amelioration” concluded at Khuvuxu village on January 6.

A press release by SRSU president, Nikato T. Ayemi stated that minister of Agricultural and Co-operation, G. Kaito Aye, graced the occasion as special guest. He reminded that students to be humble and sincere as God had made everyone’s destination. Pointing out that the road in the constituency needed improvement, the minister said better infrastructure could be attained through unity and coordination. 

On day one, theme speaker, co-founder Northeast Fiesta and ToTell, Mughavi Tuccu, urged the congregation that every village institution, student leaders, educated persons, government employees, public leaders and right thinking citizens should have the courage to speak and voice out for public right where human right guarantee right to life, freedom of thought and expression and equal treatment in the eye of law. On the third day, entrepreneur and vice president DDADU, Tito Yeputhomi graced the occasion as the cultural guest. Tito Yeputhomi urged the students to be humble, sincere, God fearing and seeks heavenly wisdom and put best efforts to succeed in their academic career.

Earlier, president SRSU, Nikato T. Ayemi welcomed the congregation while president ANCSU, Katho P Awomi extended greetings. SRSU also elected its new office bearers for the tenure 2019 led by Homugha Achumi as president and Saika Zhimo as general secretary.

PVYO 2nd general conference:  Nagas have been called to uphold the customary practices and traditions of their ancestors and to pass on the positive virtues to the younger generation.

Speaking at Phek Village Youth Organisation (PVYO) second general conference-cum-Sükrenye and cultural day celebration at Phek village local ground, Tuesday, Kuzholuzo Nienu (Azo), MLA, however, cautioned the people of the negative aspects of such practices and urged the people to differentiate between good and bad traits.

Azo called upon the people to filter the customary practices and imbibe the good practices and modify, if necessary, based on Christian principles.

Highlighting the people on the significance of Sükrenye festival, he said word Sükrenye mean “purify or sanctify” and added that the festival should strengthen the spirit of brotherhood and unify the community.

The MLA also launched PVYO’s Constitution.

In a welcome address, PVYO president, Vekupa Venuh, said the organisation had existed for over 60 years though it has just celebrated its second general conference. 

He also highlighted the achievements of the organisation and urged the people to conserve flora and fauna of the area.

The event also witnessed various traditional games competition including top spinning, traditional dice game, traditional fire making, tug of war and folk dance.
