Student bodies, village, church celebrate jubilees

Kutisu Students’ Union (KSU) celebrated its golden jubilee on the theme “Ignite a Brighter Future” at GMS ground Kutisu, here, on Saturday with Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA and class 1 contractor Visasielie Kense as guest of honour. 

Addressing the gathering, Azo said that the strongest pillars of society was human resources development, fear of God and discipline.

He said that any society with these three qualities ultimately become the champion in the field of human resources development. 

He however lamented that Nagaland would take few more years to rise in this area because of the poor performance and lack of quality education.

Pointing out that the private institutes were doing much better than government institutes, Azo said the need of the hour was a revolution “to revamp the education system in Nagaland”.

He said revamping in the appointment system, appointing only qualified persons, doing away with proxy teaches/lectures, attendance system, teaching system etc., would help the state develop better. 

Azo said that while celebrating and making merry during such an occasion one must not forget the Oting massacre where 14 Naga brothers were killed by the armed forces.

He exhorted that a time had come for Nagas to come together in unison to oust the armed forces.

The event also observed a minute of silence, jubilee boon from Veshito Keyho and jubilee tune from the jubilee choir. (Correspondent)

TVSU: Teichüma Village Students’ Union (TVSU) on Saturday celebrated its golden jubilee at the Teichüma Village with Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) CEO, Er. Kezhazelhou Theünuo, who graced the inaugural ceremony as special guest.

Addressing the students and the village community, Kezhazelhou congratulated the student community on attaining 50 years, he challenged them to move ahead with new innovations that would benefit the student community.

He expressed concern over the unemployment crisis in the state as it had the highest rate of unemployment in the North Eastern region. 

He said that in 2019-20, the state registered 15,800 educated unemployed youths and said that the number was expected to rise to 1,00,000 this year.

While the government was planning to provide employment opportunities to the youth, he said that skilled-educated youth must explore avenues in the private sector.

He urged upon the parents to encourage children in venturing opportunities in the private sector. 

Pointing out how many government employees drew salary without actually working or attending offices, he said that the desire to secure a government job had crippled productivity of such employees who had no desire to work in the sector.

Earlier, Kezhazelhou also unveiled the jubilee monolith. 

The inaugural ceremony was chaired by Kezhaletuo Metha, Co-convenor of the organising committee, welcome address by architect Vizokholie Mere Kesiyie, convenor of the organising committee, while the jubilee choir presented a song.

TVSU president Thejasetui Sogotsu delivered the presidential address and secretary of the organising committee, Dr. Vikuolie Mezhatsu presented the jubilee report.

The session was attended by delegations from Angami Students’ Union (ASU), Northern Angami Students’ Union (NASU) and various student bodies from the Northern Angami area.

Zuxushe Village: Commemorating 100 years of its existence, Zuxushe village, Northern Sumi celebrated its centennial on the theme “Christo no Aboqha” (Christ the beginning) on Saturday.

Speaking at the programme, Sumi Hoho president, I Nikheto Jimomi lauded Zuxushe villagers for having completed the church building when they were commemorating and said that it was a great blessing.

He said that Zuxushe village shared its boundaries with Wokha and Mokokchung and as such they were neighbours to Aos and Lothas and urged upon them to be peacemakers.

Urging them to coexist with Lothas and Aos as brothers, Nikheto called upon the villagers to make a resolution in the name of centennial and always retrospect on it.

Earlier, the jubilee monolith was inaugurated and unveiled by I. Nikheto Jimomi.

Other highlights of the programme included church dedication on December 17 by NSBAK field director, Khekivi Awomi.

CBCD women & youth deptt: The women & youth departments, CBCD celebrated their golden jubilee on December 17 on the theme “Celebrating God’s Marvellous Deeds” (I Chronicles 16:24).

During the programme, speaker, youth secretary, NBCC, Rev. Vikuo Rhi based his talk on three points such as celebrating the past, celebrating the present and envisioning the future.

While appreciating the women department for being the strength of the Church and society as a whole, he urged upon them to create a platform to accommodate all ages.

This way, he said, the generation gap could be filled enabling better focus on single women, widows and the differently abled to involve in social ministry.

He encouraged the youth department to focus on discipleship, kingdom surge, soul winning, dignity of labour and skill development.

Rev. Vikuo also urged the Church to introduce a soft loan structure to the promising youth who had the ability to utilise and build careers and through these mechanisms, extend their ministry beyond the four walls.

Earlier, the celebration began with unveiling of plaque by the speaker, convenor of the organizing committee, W. Kholie Kapfo welcomed the congregation, youth & women choirs presented hymns and thanksgiving prayer was said by former women chairperson, Süpohilü Kezo while greetings was delivered by WCBCCWD, Azüno Thele.

The jubilee night was marked by songs from women, youth, and children departments. Highlights of the evening celebrations included song presentations from 80’s and 90’s youth batches and other groups. Later, S.K. Kenye brought greetings and Rev. Dr. Coppe Mero said the benediction.

NVSU: Nkio Village Students Union (NVSU) celebrated its silver jubilee on the theme, “‘Strive for Brighter Future” on December 17 at GMS campus Old Nkio Village, under Tening sub-division with advisor for water resource, Namri Nchang as special guest.

According to a DIPR report, the advisor unveiled the jubilee monolith while dedication was done by Rev. Hairei Pame.

Speaking at the programme, Namri Nchang urged upon the student community to face the challenges that comes their way with confidence as they were living in a competitive world.

He advised the members present to embrace peace, harmony and kindness and said that the people from the village should achieve more success with renewed spirit. Namri said that hard work, dedication and determination were the essence of a successful life and encouraged students to strive for excellence.

Earlier, the programme was compered by Obed Newme and Kisamzaile, invocation was said by Executive Secretary, ZBA (N) Centre Nsong, Ariebo, short speeches were delivered by Kunamyi, Akubo and Namzierangbo, presidential address and concluding remark were delivered by Nkio Students Union president, Dr. Pauzieleubo and Dr. Kubamleubo while benediction was said by Old Nkio Village, Baptist Church, pastor Pakai.
