
Phek Students’ Union (PSU) Chetheba Town Students’ Union (CTSU), Thenyizumi Students Union (TSU), Xukhepu Village Students Union (XVSU) and Middle Khomi Students’ Union (MKSU) held their respective general sessions at Phek, Chetheba, Thenyizu, Xukhepu and Middle Khomi villages.
PSU: Kuzholuzo Nienu, MLA, today said that sports, dance and singing have become one of the biggest industries in the planet today.
Speaking at the cultural dance competition as part of 61st general session of Phek Students’ Union (PSU) at Phek village local ground, Azo said that “our boys and girls are second to none in all these fields.”
In this, he stressed on the need to mould them up and give them the basic trainings to excel in those fields. “Today, we are happy because our boys and girls are bold enough to venture out in any field which can earn them livelihood. What all one need is commitment, dedication, sincerity and consistency in order to excel,” he said.
Stating that it was high time the parents including the government of the day needed to invest in children, Azo said “It is truly time for all of us to give them our time, our attention, our love and support as they are our future and our assets.”
The government needed to seriously ponder upon and promote them in right earnest, he said.
Regretting that Naga cultural dances have remained stagnant for centuries and never been upgraded/ updated nor improvised, he said “It is time for the younger generation to improvise and give a remix even to our dances I believe.”
PSU president Kuthovo Chizo in his presidential address said that the session theme “Exploring greater horizon” reflects the will and determination of the new generation to compete and achieve greater horizon.
Stating that students were the leaders of tomorrow, he maintained that students constitute the bulk of the educated and enlightened section of the society.
PSU general secretary Akuve Soho and education & statistical secretary Khriesave Venuh gave secretary and statistical report respectively.
CTSU: Chetheba Town Students’ Union (CTSU) under the theme “Modern approaches and challenges” held its 30th general session at town hall, Chetheba under Phek district on December 28.
A press release from the union stated that Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Jotsoma principal Azinu Swüro graced the occasion as the guest speaker.
Speaking on the occasion, she urged the students to have an aim in life stating that once they have an aim in life, they could start building their own career. She also added that without aim in life, it would lead them nowhere.
She also spoke of the importance of life skills for a student in order to adjust and cope with fast changing world. Speaker asked the students to make a point to make daily routine study, while reminding them not to study only for exams, but also to gain knowledge. She said studying and understanding the content was necessary to gain knowledge for their future.
She also highlighted on the importance of making budget for students which may help them in the long term and how to make the best use of it.
Presidential address was delivered by Züvekhoyi Phesao, Mahi Swuro gave a brief history about Chetheba town, invocation by CCCRC Mission Centre Chetheba pastor Pfolo Koza.
The meritorious awards were also given to the students. New team was also elected for the tenure 2020 with Er. Senetsolu Nyekha as the new president and Zavekho Resü as general secretary.
TSU: Thenyizumi Students Union (TSU) held its 66th general session at GMS campus Thenyizu village under Phek district on Saturday.
A release from the union stated that, former NPSC chairman Kehupoyo Puro graced the occasion as the special guest. In his address he viewed that Naga society with too many leaders have become a problem for the progression of the society, while he also suggested that lack of competitive spirit was because of the outnumbered activities, irrespective of social and religious events.
He also called upon to safeguard the rich tradition and cultural values as they are treasures inherited through forefathers.
Earlier, the presidential address was delivered by Er. Sekhozo Thisa, greetings was shared by the VCC, Thenyizumi, Zhothiyi Dawhuo, education and statistical report by John Swiho.
In the evening session, Keneinuo Swuro, advocate Phek Bar Association was the session speaker. New team of TSU was also elected with Veduto Theyo as the president and Khrunuto Kezo as vice-president along with other executives for the tenure 2020.
XVSU: Xukhepu Village Students Union (XVSU) held its annual session from December 27 to 29, wherein on December 28, chief guest of the event was Ghokiye Zhimomi VDB secretary Xukhepu village and chairman Deacon Council ZTSBC.
A press release from ZTSBC media supervisor, Bombo K Yeptho stated that, the chief guest was accompanied by Rev Dr Daniel Chishi pastor ZTSBC and his colleagues. Chief guest hoisted the flag, followed by state anthem sung by the students.
Ghokiye Zhimo in his speech gave thanks to the Almighty God and said that whoever can speak boldly in front of people, be it a boy or a girl could be a good leader and possess the ability to lead his or her forward.
He also said that God has blessed Xukhepu village as before there were no men in the village holding a highly paid job or officers but now almost all the persons in the village held a particular job.
He said that students should love their own village because village was very important in proving their identity.
He also encouraged students to hold God as their first priority as God’s love was very important. He said that an educated person respects God, elders and parents. He also stressed that parents should teach their children to be humble, honest and respectful towards others and should be a good example to their children. He encouraged everyone to always try to do their best in every field and be a successful person.
Earlier, Yehozhe GB Xukhepu village greeted and thanked the chief guest for gracing the event and also thanked Rev Dr Daniel Chishi and his colleagues. Solo song was presented by Kitheli K Zhimo executive member (XKK) and benediction was pronounced by Rev. Dr Daniel Chishi pastor ZTSBC.
MKSU: Middle Khomi Students’ Union (MKSU) held its 58th general session from December 27 to 28 under the theme “My identity is my dignity.”
A release from the union stated general secretary NDPP central youth organisation, Vecüto Tenyi graced as the guest speaker. Speaker challenged the students to be serious with their academic career as good education was prerequisite to get into any job. He advised students not to look for backdoor appointment but to go for competitive exams.
Stating that the students of today must look beyond the government job, he said there were ample opportunity for jobs and business all around.
Also speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sakhoveyi Lohe, asst. prof. Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, stated that culture was not just about wearing tradition attire on important occasions, dancing and singing folk songs but also refers to attitude, beliefs, values, customs and behavioural pattern characterising a social group of people. Regretting that the rich culture was on the verge of being lost, he stressed on the need to promote and preserve it.
Earlier, MKSU president Veto Nakro delivered presidential address while Middle Khomi Village Youth Organization president Zalezo Vero shared greetings. Zhosahu Lala will lead the new team of MKSU as the president.
