Various students’ unions observed their respective jubilee and general sessions during the year end of 2019 in their designated areas.
TSU: Terogvunyu Students’ Union (TSU) held its 51st annual session at the premises of Terogvunyu Baptist Church under Tseminyu sub-division of Kohima district on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion as the guest speaker, director National Scheduled Tribes Finance & Development Corporation (NSTFDC), Ministry of Tribal Affairs, India, Johny G. Rengma stressed on the need to focus on land resources and economic stability to march ahead with the rest of the world. He said that with economic stability there will always be peace, unity and quality of social life. If you want to be a good human being you have to prepare yourself and act from now, he said, adding that Rengmas were educationally advanced but economically backward.
Touching on the district demand of Tseminyu, he was hopeful that chief minister Neiphiu Rio will pay attention to it during his leadership in the PDA ministry. President Henbenju Students’ Union (HSU), Lucy Tep and president New Terogvunyu Students Union (NTSU) also addressed the gathering.
The morning session was chaired by Hizenlo Tep, TSU education & statistical secretary Keziah Semy read out the statistical report, while Daniel Tep proposed vote of thanks.
Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) general secretary John Kath including several other dignitaries attended the session. Later, the gathering observed one minute silence and paid homage to Vikho-o Yhoshu, speaker NLA who passed away on December 30 in Mumbai. TSU president Kyiinilo Tep delivered presidential address. It may be mentioned that the village has 145 government employees and 17 gazetted officers at present. (Correspondent)
DIMAPUR: Alato Kiphimi Kughakulu (AKK) Pherima celebrated its golden jubilee on December 28 and 29 under the theme “Empowered for greatness”.
A press release from KKK Pherima stated that, Western Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Kughakulu (WSBAK) executive secretary Rev. Dr. Hevukhu Achumi unveiled the monolith of the golden jubilee and blessed the Alato student community. Speaking on the theme, he exhorted the students on his life experiences as a youth and a servant of God. Former minister and president, Western Sumi Hoho Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi along with his colleagues and WSBAK youth secretary N. Suhuto Chishi also attended the programme.
On the second day of the jubilee celebration, Azheto Zhimomi, MLA, graced the occasion along with his wife, family and well-wishers.
Hoisting the flag, Azheto exhorted the students’ community to preserve their culture and identity and also reminded parents of their vital roles in bringing up their children as responsible citizens.
The community, well wishers, various dignitaries, GBs, pastors from Sakipheto range took part in the celebration. During the two-day, various choral and cultural presentations, martial art demonstration by TNSYNC Taekwon-Do Academy marked the celebration.
ZSU: Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) held its 60th general session on December 27 and 28 at public amphitheatre, Pame Tsüdü under the theme “Skill development and career”, wherein the inaugural session was graced by Lieut. Colonel Shashi Rhi joint director Signal Intelligent Directorate Army Headquarter, Delhi as the special guest.
A press release from ZSU stated that, addressing the gathering, he emphasized on the fast changing society, literacy rate and job opportunities. He encouraged the students to be self motivated and do smart studies and not to forget the struggles and sacrifices made by the parents for their education.
He also advised the youngsters to move out from their comfort zone and become more generic in knowledge with competitive spirits. He pointed out that many of the central jobs for ST went vacant due to ignorance and laziness. He challenged the students to be stable in their dreams and aim to bring happiness to the whole community and to look for different professions like government sector, private sector, entrepreneurship etc.
Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) president, Lavoto Chizo gave greetings and appreciated the co-operation and support given by the union to CSU. He reminded about the diversity of dialect in Chakhesang community and appealed the people of Zhavame to stay united and keep up the hard work, sincerity and to build the bond of oneness as Chakhesang.
Presidential address was delivered by Visapa Movi president ZSU, Rokovi Movi the general secretary ZSU give secretary report for the tenure 2018-2019. Newly nominated office bearers for the tenure 2020-2021 was declared by Jonah Domeh, convener nomination committee and Rev. Akha Shupao, pastor Zhavame Baptist Church administered the act of blessing.
The first “Deo Theodore Dukru Memorial Award” best performing teacher was awarded to Neisakuo Pohena. Gentle Breeze (Sanapati district) entertained with “Lets Live as One”. S. John Krocha catechist St. Xavier Catholic Church Zhavame invoked God’s blessing, while indigenous tune was presented by the Zhavame Women Society. Session was chaired by Jonah Domeh advisor ZSU, where Muvi Domeh and Livi Shupao compered the session.
At the valedictory session held under the theme, “Self reliance”, Rekha Rose Dukru entrepreneur as the valedictory speaker recalled her childhood memories and how human innovation has developed technologies and made life easier. Encouraging the student community to make use of talent and make a living, she also reminded that “we” were presently living at an exciting time, whereby one should keep updated with different issues and knowledge so as to become self reliant. Stressing that students should not become educated burdens for society, she challenged them not to depend on parents but to do away with laziness and become responsible persons in life.
Altogether 12 students participated in the extempore speech, wherein youth director ZBC Litsüvi Domeh invoked the God’s blessing. Lisü Nukhu entertained the gathering. Thorhü Movi finance secretary ZSU pronounced word of thanks. Session was compared by Rhuvi Domeh and Morevine Krocha, Apao Dukru president ZCYA said the closing prayer.
MTSSU: Medziphema Town Sümi Students’ Union (MTSSU) held its 23rd annual session on December 29, wherein flag was hoisted by J Akato Chishi senior technical assistant of Entomology, SASRD, Nagaland University as inaugural special guest.
A press release from MTSSU general secretary, Tonato Rochill stated that, J Akato Chishi in his speech, said that society was nothing without youth as they were the backbone of society. He added that the society would crumble without the unity of youths, whereby he encouraged them to work hard and be dedicated to succeed in life. He also opined that travelling was one of the best means to gain knowledge.
During the evening session, Hutoli Chishi as the guest speaker spoke on the topic “Rooting for wisdom”. She stressed on knowing and putting God first in one’s daily life and emphasized on the importance of one’s dialect and to preserve it by speaking it daily.
Earlier, programme was invoked by Medziphema Town Sümi Baptist Church pastor Sukhato Achumi and concluded with speech by MTSSU advisor Kihovi Kiba.
NSU: Nerhema Students’ Union (NSU) was held its 54th annual day under the theme “Aspire to ascend” at Nerhema village under Kohima district on Monday.
PS to chief minister Nagaland Neiketouzo Kengurüse graced the occasion as the guest speaker and also inaugurated the NSU office-cum-library.
Kengurüse in his speech said that education was pre-requisite for all round development and stressed upon the need to give holistic approach for rapid growth of education. Education can change the atmosphere of the world for good, he asserted and informed the students that education was the key component to march ahead with the competitive world.
Urging the students to choose the right career, Kenguriise also told them to pay full attention and become expert for a successful journey in life. He also impressed upon the students to have faith and fear God, quoting from the Bible that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of the knowledge.” Ruokuongunuo Rutsa (HSLC subject topper in home science) and Philomina Rutsa (HSSLC topper 5 science) shared their success story.
Nerhema Village Council chairman Deizolie Virie shared greetings while Angami Students Union (ASU) vice president Petekhrietuo Kiewhuo exhorted the gathering.
ZVSU: Zutovi Village Student’s Union (ZVSU) also successfully concluded its 42nd annual session on December 28 and 29 with T. Akali Sema sub-divisional engineer BSNL Nagaland and Sukhavi Yeputhomi, supervisor, Social Welfare Nagaland as special guests.
