
Phek Students’ Union (PSU), Thenyizumi Student’s Union (TSU) and the Middle Khomi Village Students Union (MKVSU) held their 59th general session-cum-cultural dance competition, 64th general session and 56th general session at Phek village, Thenyizu village and Khomi village respectively, while Khewoto Village Students’ Union (KVSU) held its golden jubilee at Khewoto village.
PSU: The 59th general session-cum-cultural dance competition of the Phek Students’ Union (PSU) was held at Phek village from December 29 to 30 under the theme “Education for culture.”
A press release by PSU organizing committee stated that minister for Home Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu and Nukutulii Rhakho, under secretary, Women Resources department graced the session as guest speaker and inaugural speaker respectively. Niechochiyi Venuh, district & session judge Zunheboto also exhorted the gathering.
PSU president Ozo Venuh delivered presidential address. In cultural dance competition, Ketouzou team stood first position and awarded with late Hiivekhiiyi Soho’s Memorial Trophy along with cash as running money sponsored by his wife Chivelii Soho.T.N. Khel stood 2nd position and received cash as running money sponsored by Vepasa Venuh. Old Town and Kepfutsa & MC stood 3rd and 4th place and received cash sponsored by PSU executive. In debate competition, Zholu Venuh, Hukuyi Venuh and Shepazo Chizo stood Ist, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
Ketouzou Team bagged the first position in quiz event while MC Team & Old Town Team and Kepfutsa Team & Chosaba Team stood 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
Meanwhile, the union elected its new team of office bearers for the tenure 2018- 2020 with Kuthovo Chizo as president and Saba Soho as general secretary along with thirteen others.
TSU: Thenyizumi Student’s Union (TSU) held its 64th general session at Government Middle School, Thenyizu on December 30. A press release by TSU stated that in a mark to keep the historical bonding friendship of Thenyizu and Mima village, Vilelie Khamo, class-1 contractor along with host of dignitaries and village council attended the programme.
Vilelie Khamo, Class-1 Contractor graced the occasion as the chief guest for the general session, while in the evening session, Kropayi Dawhou, entrepreneur spoke on the theme “striving to live”.
Chief guest, Vilelie Khamo in his speech challenges the students to be hardworking, sincere and strive for excellence in their endeavour. Khamo said that education and faith can not be bought but through hard work. Narrating his own story and early struggle in his life, he challenged upon the students to work hard and work beyond expectations and leave the rest to Almighty God. Further, he reminded the gathering to remain positive at all times in self confidence and determination. He also called on the students not to forget their own identity and culture. Khamo stressed on the Thenyizu village and Mima village to continue their friendship and have a better bonding between the two villages.
Choseta Swuro, convenor planning and vision cell, Thenyizu speaking on retold legends about Thenyizu and Mima village said the friendship between Thenyizu and Mima villagers was immemorial. The strong historical bond of friendship was retold and agreed to uplift their friendship by both the village councils.
Vekedu Resu, TSU president in his presidential address thanked the pioneers who took great trouble in bringing the union thus far. He congratulated the meritorious students specially the achievers Dr. Thejotalu Nienu, Rev.Fr.Mhasikholie Martin Swiho and Surhotalu Swiho gold medalist in history Nagaland University. The president also led the crowd to pay their tribute to late gazetted officer Vekrotsu Swuro.
KVSU: Khewoto Village Students’ Union (KVSU) held two-day celebrations of its golden jubilee from December 28 to 29 under the theme, “ignite the flame of wisdom.”
A press release by KVSU organising committee stated that SBAK executive secretary, Rev. Hukugha Zhimomi attended the programme, wherein he unveiled the jubilee monolith and also paid respect to founding members of KVSU. Other speakers included WSBAK mission secretary, Rev. Shikyho Zhimo and BDO Dhansiripar Dimapur, Bohoto Zhimo.
MKSU: The Middle Khomi Students’ Union (MKSU) under Phek district held its 56th general session from December 27 to 28 under the theme “Ameliorating Horizon.”
A press release by MKSU stated that Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) former president Wepe Mekrisuh graced the session as the guest speaker, wherein he said that to ameliorate horizon one needed to be proactive and must be an agent of change. He emphasized the need to ameliorate the horizon by exploring the best in “us” and the need to deliver best resources available to live with the present contemporary.
He said education was the mother of all professions and education was like a breathing air to life. Vekhosalu Lohe, Asst. Prof. Pfutsero Government College, also exhorted the gathering.
