The Food Corporation of India (FCI), Food Storage Depot, Phesama organised an interaction-cum-awareness programme for students at FCI godown, Phesama on Thursday.
The students were urged to familiarised with the role of FCI, responsibility and functioning of FCI and their role in ensuring food security and along with the distribution processes in FCI. FCI divisional manager, Dimapur P Vanlalpak K Gangte informed that the total capacity of the FCI godown was 5742 MT with a total Capacity Utilization (as on September 14, 2023) of 5342 MT while a total offtake/issue per month was 1300.945 MT for Kohima and Tseminyu districts.
The FCI representatives gave an in-depth explanation on the overall quality of rice provided while emphasizing on the important role FCI plays in maintaining food security. They were also briefed on maintaining a reasonable price to ensure people from all classes are able to buy them, purchasing grains from farmers who have a surplus at a standardized price in order to avoid mismanagement.
Emphasis on the several schemes implemented under FCI were also elaborated including: National Food Security Act, 2013 through Public Distribution System via Department of Food & Civil Supplies, Mid-Day Meal Scheme via Department of Education, Wheat Based Nutrition Programme for lactating mothers via Department of Social Welfare and Para-Military Forces and noted that the depot received around 100-150 trucks per month.
