Subramani named CDS,Swaminathan new Navy chief

NEW DELHI, MAY 9 (PTI): The Centre on Saturday appointed Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani (Retd) as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan as the new Chief of Naval Staff.
Lt Gen Subramani, currently serving as military adviser to the National Security Council Secretariat, will succeed Gen Anil Chauhan on May 30. Vice Admiral Swaminathan, presently heading the Western Naval Command, will take over from Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi on May 31.
As CDS and secretary of the Department of Military Affairs, Subramani’s key responsibility will be to implement the ambitious military theaterisation plan and strengthen tri-services integration. Widely regarded as an expert on Pakistan and China, he retired as Vice Chief of Army Staff last year.
Vice Admiral Swaminathan, a specialist in communication and electronic warfare, has commanded several frontline warships, and earlier served as Vice Chief of Naval Staff.
