Under the aegis of the National Health Mission (NHM), office of the chief medical officer (CMO) along with District Health Society (DHS) Kohima and state officials of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department organised the launching programme of Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) scheme at Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Seikhazou on October 11.
In a press release, office of the CMO Kohima stated that NHM mission director, Dr. Thorhüsie Katiry said SUMAN in context to zero preventable services for mother and child should have the maximal outcome.
He stated that healthcare provider should be prompt in performing his/her duties with sincerity as the initiative focuses on assured delivery of maternal and new born healthcare services encompassing wider access to free and quality services, zero tolerance for denial of services, assured management of complication, etc.
At the programme, brief introduction on SUMAN was presented by DPO RMNCHA+N, Dr. Rupert Peseyie, who informed that SUMAN was an initiative by the centre, for zero preventable maternal and new born death.
Dr. Rupert informed that the programme provides affordable and quality healthcare solution to pregnant women and newborns who receive zero expenses access up to six months after delivery.
Naga Mothers Association (NMA), joint secretary, Sawmi Leyri stated that central schemes were not always conducive.
In this regard, she urged upon the department to be proactive in monitoring and supervising as SUMAN scheme should directly benefit beneficiaries.
The programme was chaired by CMO Dr. Tumchobeni while deputy CMO Dr. Imchatoshi proposed vote of thanks.
