Sumi Chess Championship concludes

DIMAPUR, AUG 23 (NPN)

Mughaho Awomi was crowned the champion of the 12th Sumi Chess Championship 2025 which was concluded on August 22, at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur
On the 3rd day, the competition witnessed close contest.
A press release by SCAN secretary Mughato K Kiba stated that in the open category, Mughaho, Kunvuto, Kughaho Kiho, Toivi, Thophimi were standing tall aiming to lift the trophy.
However, the draw between Mughaho and Kunvuto gave the former a slim point who settled at 6.5 points and Toivi Yeptho emerged as 1st Runner while Kunvuto bagged the 2nd prize.
The most interesting turn of events was when Thophimi who played as U18 surprised all his opponents and played against Open Category’s strong contender Kughaho and claimed the 4th position.
In the under 18 category, Pulonito Hesso a student from NERIST, Arunachal Pradesh topped the table and was crowned Champion while Chishi brothers Gihuca and Jesse were the 1st and 2nd runner up.
The U14 category witnessed a good numbers of woman participation though male players dominated the board.
Tunato Awomi, Pinuka J Zhimo, Kuxupu G Achumi were the champion ,1st and 2nd Runner up respectively in U14 category.
Apishe Kiba Satami a student of St.Mary Hr.School,Dimapur, Jeremy Nitova Zhimomi of NN Nagi School and Ahivi G Achumi were declared as champion,1st and 2nd runner-up respectively.
A total of 15 girls competed in the Championship. Among the female participants, Shenikali Hesso, Alibo Mugha Kiba and Adele Jakhalu were bestowed champion,1st and 2nd runner up.
Edlina Nini Kiba Satami of Bloom Academy, Ekranipathar and Kimeto Awomi of DMI St Joseph School, received the certificate, trophy and cash prizes for the youngest female and male participants.
A total cash of Rs 2,80,000 was spent to sponsored the awards.
In the closing programme, Ikiho Rochill former president SCAN led the invocation prayer while Y Vizheto Shohe CDPO,Tokiye Block Zunheboto exhorted the players.
Illikivi K Phuleshe mesmerised the gathering with a song while the program was chaired by Inakhe Shiniho Aye President SCAN.
A prayer was also offered to the newly elected office bearers for the tenure 2025-2030.
A new team of Executives will be led by Itovi Awomi as President ,Bovito Yeptho as general secretary and other 8 members with Inakhe,Mughato and Inavi as their advisors.
