Sumi Community of New Ministers’ Hill, Kohima celebrated its 35th Tuluni Festival on July 8 at the colony premises with traditional fervour and community spirit.
According to DIPR report, gracing the occasion as special guest, former MLA Pukhayi called upon the community to uphold unity, compassion, and collective growth. Reflecting on the journey of the early Sumi settlers, he acknowledged their vision and resilience in laying the foundation of a vibrant community. He said that the unity among residents has been a driving force behind the steady progress of the colony, and urged the youth to carry forward the values of generosity and cooperation.
He remarked that the success of the community lies in its ability to stand together in times of challenge and change.
Guest speaker, Er. Hutoshe Awomi, highlighted the importance of cultural preservation through active intergenerational learning. He said that parents play a vital role in passing down values and traditions to the younger generation. While urging the youth to embrace their heritage, he encouraged them to adapt traditions meaningfully in today’s context.
The programme was chaired by chairman of Sumi Community New Ministers’ Hill, Obed Sheqi.
The celebration featured a range of cultural items including a special number by Nilokali Rochill and friends, a Tishele performance by the Mother’s Group, and traditional presentations such as Lejole, Akhetsu Kuzu, and Itsani, showcasing the richness of Sumi culture.
The event concluded with the appointment of new office bearers for the term 2025–2028. Tokugha Yeptho was appointed as the new chairman of the Sumi Community, New Ministers’ Hill.
The festival brought together residents and well-wishers in a spirit of celebration, reinforcing the importance of cultural identity and community values among the Sumi people.
