Three-day summer training programme on “basic learning on science” was organised by department of science, Unity Christian Higher Secondary School Diphupar, Dimapur from July 6-8 at the school campus.
The main objective of the event was to give hands-on training to the students on different aspects of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics.
On the first day Unity Christian Higher Secondary School Diphupar, principal, Ashuli Joseph gave a brief introduction and also exhorted the students.
Experimental lecture and demonstration was given by the science teachers of the school. There was also presentation on “art in science” by Lhicheü Khutso.
The second day focused on centripetal force, gravity, light and magnetism, study of plants cell and stomata, traffic light reaction, surface tension and diffusion followed by hands-on activity by the students. It concluded with quiz, solving puzzles and drawing.
The third day witnessed light dispersion/scattering, concave and convex lens, subtraction of colours, osmosis, light reaction of photosynthesis, demonstration of evolution of gases, ozone hole, jet streams, coriolic force and followed by hands-on activity by the students. The day witnessed all the students wearing self designed T-Shirts colourfully imprinted ‘BaZnGa’ signifying Barium, Zinc, Gallium.
It also had the presence and participation of the parents in the different activities of the day. The training culminated with feedback by the students and parents. Students from classes VIII and above as well as from neighbouring schools joined in this three-day event.
This training was initiated as a result of the school students’ participation in the North-East Students’ Summer Training on Basic Sciences (NESST-BASE) at Darjeeling from May 22 to June 3, 2017.
