Nerhema Students Union emerged as the winners in men’s category while Seiyhama Students’ Union team retained the championship title in women’s category at the Suolahie Theünuo Memorial Volleyball Trophy, which concluded on Saturday.
The trophy was organised by Northern Angami Students Union (NASU) at Tsiesema local ground.
NASU organised the running trophy in remembrance and respect of its first president late. Suolahie Theünuo from Nerhema Village under the theme “Unity Through Sports”.
A total of 16 teams in men’s category and 8 teams in women’s category participated in the event.
The trophy was opened to villages under the Northern Angami region wherein students and youths from different areas and villages participate.
In the Men’s category, Nerhema Students Union defeated Tsiesema Students Union (B) and in women’s category, Seiyhama Students’ Union defeated Chiechamia Students Union. Ruokuokhrienuo Chadi of Chiechama Students Union in the women’s category and Neihelie Yhor of Tsiesema Students Union in the men’s category were named as the best players.
Earlier, the 2024 edition of the trophy was graced by special assistant to chief minister, Vibeilietuo Kets, as special guest and joint director, Youth Resources & Sports, Teisobou Sekhose, as guest of honour.
Earlier, the inaugural was chaired by NASU general secretary, Ketholezo Keyho, while pastor, Tsiesema Baptist Church, Keneingulie Mere, invoked God’s blessings. Vice president, NASU, Meteitoulie Talie, delivered the welcome address and a special song was presented by Neilakuonuo Metha.
Chairman, Tsiesema village council and NASU senior Khrielie Chase delivered greetings respectively. Oath taking was administered by games & sports secretary, Khriebu Rüpreo, after which the match commence with the special guest serving off the ball.
