The first and second quarterfinal matches of the MDFA Trophy 2025 were played on Monday, with Super Seniors FC and Doyang Strikers Mokokchung securing their spots in the semifinals after convincing wins over their respective opponents.
In the first quarterfinal, Super Seniors FC edged past Team Gilgal with a 2-1 victory. The match saw an early display of dominance from Super Seniors, who opened the scoring in the 40th minute through Sentilong (11). Just before the halftime whistle, Mughato Chishi (17) doubled the lead with a well-placed strike in the 45th minute, giving Super Seniors a comfortable cushion going into the break.
Team Gilgal returned with renewed energy in the second half, pressing hard for a comeback. Their efforts bore fruit in the 70th minute when Nyithung (2) found the back of the net, narrowing the deficit. However, despite their late surge, Gilgal could not find the equalizer, and the match concluded 2-1 in favor of Super Seniors FC.
The second quarterfinal saw a dominant performance from Doyang Strikers Mokokchung, who cruised to a 5-0 win over Sangpang Riju SC. Yhoto (9) set the tone early with a goal in the 2nd minute. Gamchui added a second in the 20th minute, followed by a third from Khanngam Horam in the 36th minute, giving Doyang Strikers a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.
The onslaught continued in the second half, with Yhoto netting his second goal in the 48th minute. Eshong sealed the emphatic win with a fifth goal in the 72nd minute, ending Sangpang Riju SC’s campaign in the tournament.
With these victories, Super Seniors FC and Doyang Strikers Mokokchung move forward to the semifinals, keeping their championship hopes alive.
