Supongmeren expresses gratitude, assures doing justice to the mandate

Indian National Congress (INC) candidate S Supongmeren Jamir, who scripted history by becoming the first Congress leader in over two decades to have been elected in the state with his comprehensive win in Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency election, has thanked the Lord Almighty for His abundant kindness, and for reminding all once again that all things were possible with Him.

Accepting the verdict of the people with utmost gratitude and humility, Supongmeren in a message assured to ceaselessly endeavour to do justice to the overwhelming mandate given his favour and the Congress.

He extended heartfelt gratitude to his supporters and well wishers, including the rank and file of the Congress family in Nagaland and beyond, the campaign committee and the untold volunteers and individuals for their unwavering support and sacrifices.

He said the momentous victory was as much theirs as it was his, while acknowledging the Rising People’s Party for exemplary camaraderie and rock solid partnership. Supongmeren also extended his gratitude to civil society and church organisations, the media fraternity and all poll-related government officials for their invaluable contribution in facilitating the delivery of another democratic mandate.

Thanking his fellow competing candidates for their spirited campaigns, Jamir stated that he looked forward to their constructive and collaborative interventions as he set out to discharge his responsibilities in the service of the people of Nagaland and the nation in general.

He reaffirmed his commitment to represent the people’s interests and aspirations to the best of his abilities, from within and outside the hallowed halls of the Parliament.

Declaring it as a victory for the ages, the Rising People’s Party (RPP) has congratulated Jamir on his remarkable victory. Claiming that the electrifying victory of Jamir wasnow etched in history, the RPP in a press release asserted that history would record that he had defeated the combined might of the opposition-less Neiphiu Rio government with 60 legislators and two MPs. The party pointed out that this feat was unparalleled in India.

Mentioning that the victory belonged to Naga people, the party noted that the narrative of this Lok Sabha election was people’s power versus 60 MLAs, with people’s power winning the day.
“Firstly, the people voted against 21 years of Rio’s misrule. Even in Northern Angami-1, Rio’s constituency, the Congress received a massive 35% of the votes,” the party pointed out.

The RPP declared the victory as also a referendum against the NDPP-BJP coalition, adding that right-thinking voters came out in full force to defeat the coalition candidate who represented the corruption and misrule that had come to characterise the opposition-less government.

The party claimed that the wise people of Nagaland had also voted against the Hindutva agenda of the BJP, for which no further elaboration was required.
Declaring that a new era had dawned on Nagaland politics, the party mentioned that this election was unique because, despite the fact that the government poured in tons of money, the voters stood strong on principle and even the curse of tribalism was swept away in favour of Jamir.

The RPP stated that the NDPP-BJP coalition had utterly lost the mandate of the people, adding that the victory margin would have been much larger, but for the threat of stopping development works by the powers be.

The party predicted that, eventually, the same force that swept Jamir to power would manifest itself in the next Assembly election, underlining that it was only a matter of time.

The RPP also thanked the people of Nagaland for having elected the right person to represent them in the Parliament, and wished Jamir all the best in his new assignment representing Nagaland in the Lok Sabha.

CNTC: Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has conveyedits heartiest congratulations to Jamir for winning the state’s lone Lok Sabha seat.

Wishing him, the CNTC in a press release underlined that as the lone representative of Naga people, it was expected that Jamir would take forward the aspirations and voice of the people in the Parliament.
The council hoped and prayed that he would endeavour to strive and work for the people of Nagaland in his new capacity.
