Supongmeren reviews DISHA schemes, challenges in Wokha

DIMAPUR: District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha, on July 7, chaired by Lok Sabha MP and DISHA chairperson, Supongmeren Jamir, with DC Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, as co chair.
According to DIPR report, the meeting focused on departmental progress, schemes, activities and their benefits to the people, while also addressing challenges hindering development. Supongmeren underscored the core objective of DISHA meetings, stressing their role in shaping district development.
The Agriculture, Labour, and Veterinary departments presented detailed reports. DAO Renathung Kikon highlighted schemes such as the National Mission on Natural Farming and NMEO Oil Palm, covering 243 hectares across 14 villages. He flagged challenges faced by field officers in Ralan Block due to distance and called for a separate sub division. He also noted the manpower intensive transition to Aadhaar based DBT payments.
Assistant Labour Commissioner Neimenuo presented data under the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (NBOCWWB), reporting 1,788 registrations, of which 763 are active and 988 inactive, along with 8 death claims, 630 scholarships, 5 maternity benefits, 2 medical benefits and 768 tools grants.
She also spoke on ESIC and EPFO schemes, citing coverage challenges and outlining awareness drives in poorly covered villages.
Chief Veterinary Officer K. N. Zubemo Humtsoe reported Wokha’s annual meat consumption of 3,614 MT against production of 1,964.67 MT, leaving a shortfall of 1,649.55 MT valued at Rs. 36.64 crore. He highlighted the Livestock Insurance Scheme under NLM, launched in March 2026, and the Entrepreneurship Development Programme. He also detailed the Artificial Insemination Technology initiative, which has produced 1,350 piglets with an 81% success rate, and reported on vaccination drives and the recent African Swine Fever outbreak that caused 374 animal deaths, with losses estimated at Rs. 1.04 crore.
Supongmeren actively engaged in discussions, assuring that challenges would be taken up at higher levels. Issues such as BSNL network coverage crucial for census operations, post office infrastructure, and the need to advertise vacant Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts for indigenous Nagas were also deliberated. The Lead Bank Manager presented on agricultural loans and related challenges.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to address challenges and strengthen developmental activities across Wokha district.
