Surprise raid on tobacco in Mon

In a joint effort to bolster the enforcement of Section 6(b) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA) 2003, the Enforcement Squad under the National Tobacco Control Programme, in collaboration with the Mon Town Students Union, conducted an unexpected raid near an educational institutions within Mon Town on August 23.


A DIRP report informed that during the operation, 17 individuals were found in violation of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act Section 6(b), which specifically prohibited the sale of tobacco products in the vicinity of educational institutions.


The offenders were promptly penalized in accordance with the relevant legal provisions. Seized tobacco products, which were found in possession of the defaulters, were also subsequently confiscated and destroyed at the premises of the Mon Town Police Station.
