SVSU concerned over plight of health centre at Seyochung

Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has expressed concern over the plight of Seyochung village health and wellness centre (HWC), which it said was facing shortage of medicines and staff.

The student body informed the members visited the HWC at Seyochung Village to discuss with the community health officer various challenges faced by the centre.
During the discussion, SVSU said the officer pointed out that labour room and toilet extension, which was supposed to be completed, has not even started.

On shortage of medicines, the union said the chief medical officer (CMO) office supplies medicines, but the stock was not enough to meet the needs of the patients.

According to SVSU, the officer informed that five neighbouring villages depended on HWC, but the centre struggled to provide adequate medical care due to limited resources.
Further, SVSU said that absence of a sweeper was affecting cleanliness and hygiene at the centre. It said there was also shortage of healthcare staff.

It was informed that only one auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) was not enough for a large village like Seyochung. To ensure smooth functioning, SVSU said the centre needed at least two ANMs.

Assuring to extend support, SVSU has urged the responsible authorities to address the issues at the earliest.

Appeal for additional ANM: SVSU has appealed to the chief medical officer, Kiphire to consider appointment of an additional auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) at H&WC, Seyochung village, under the National Health Mission (NHM).

In a letter to CMO Kiphire, SVSU Longtili C Sangtam and general secretary Tsise said that existing healthcare services at HWC were inadequate to meet the growing healthcare demands.

It said that shortage of medical personnel, particularly ANMs, affected maternal and child healthcare, immunization programmes, and other essential medical services. Therefore, the union requested CMO to consider appointment of an additional ANM at the earliest to strengthen the healthcare delivery system in the village.

Aadhaar enrolment: The union has requested for assistance in Aadhaar enrolment for students of government high school Seyochung village. In a letter addressed to the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Seyochung, SVCSU stated that students were facing challenges in registering for the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) due to the unavailability of Aadhaar cards.

In this regard, SVSU appealed to the ADC to make necessary arrangements or provide assistance in facilitating Aadhaar registration for those students.
The union also suggested organizing an Aadhaar enrolment camp at the school for ensuring that no student was left behind due to documentation issues.

Further, SVSU highlighted the urgent need for a permanent Aadhaar enrolment centre at Seyochung HQ. it said that absence of such a facility caused immense inconvenience to the residents, especially students, in obtaining Aadhaar for academic and other essential purposes

Therefore, the union urged the responsible authorities to establish an Aadhaar enrolment centre at the earliest to address the issue effectively.
