The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU), has presented its findings of their visit conducted regarding the ongoing road metalling work between Sitimi and Seyochung HQ to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Seyochung Town on March 17.
In a press release issued by SVSU president, Longtili C Sangtam and general secretary, Tsise highlighted the union’s observations during their visit. The union observed the absence of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) officials, despite prior communication, no representatives from the BRO office were present during their visit.
It also observed poor work quality – the metalling work lacks proper compaction and durability as per standard construction practices. “There was no proper drainage system, leading to the risk of waterlogging and road deterioration over time”, said a statement from the union.
The union pointed out that there was lack of drainage and cross slope. The road does not follow IRC guidelines for cross slope, which is essential for water runoff and road longevity. They said that there were no culverts, ditches and drainage structures been properly installed.
In light of these serious concerns, SVSU urged the competent authority to take necessary corrective measures to ensure the quality and sustainability of this project. “Proper drainage, compaction, and adherence to road construction standards must be prioritized”, stated that union. They further appealed the intervention of ADC Seyochung Town in addressing these issues with the concerned department and contractor at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) and the Youth Ministry of Seyochung Village visited Government High School, Seyochung.
They donated books on Sangtam Naga literature and works by local authors to promote indigenous literature and introduce students to indigenous writers. They also provided a first-aid kit, including sanitary pads for female students.
President of SVSU, Longtili C. Sangtam thanked the school for launching the Nagaland Heritage (Sangtam) programme and urged the headmaster to arrange a routine for the Youth Pastor, who volunteered for the initiative. Later, SVSU also visited St. Mary’s High School, Seyochung Town, and donated books to the school library to encourage reading. Longtili C. Sangtam praised the school for its role in education and its consistent academic success, encouraging them to maintain high standards.
Faculty members discussed challenges with Aadhaar enrolment, noting that nearly 200 out of 493 students have not completed the process due to issues with birth certificates. They also raised concerns about name correction restrictions by the Nagaland Board of School Education.
The school authorities sought SVSU’s support in addressing these issues with the concerned authorities. In response, Longtili C. Sangtam assured the full assistance from the union in advocating for solutions and ensuring the welfare of the student community.
