SVSU seeks ALO’s intervention in road metalling

The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has written to the Assistant Labour Officer, Kiphire seeking urgent intervention in the deplorable conditions under which labourers are working at the ongoing metalling road project between Sitimi and Seyochung HQ.

In a letter countersigned by SVSU president, Longtili C Sangtam and general secretary Tsise stated that it has been observed that the labour force is not only deprived of essential amenities but is also exposed to hazardous and unsanitary working conditions.

The union has identified key issues in this regard, stating that the labourers are working without access to basic facilities such as safe drinking water, sanitation, and adequate shelter. The absence of these essential standards creates an unsafe and unhealthy living and working environment.

The union also observed that the site lacks proper safety protocols, leaving the labourers vulnerable to potential hazards. Additionally, the working environment was extremely dusty, posing serious health risks, especially respiratory issues, due to prolonged exposure without appropriate protective equipment.

It may be noted that the Seyochung Village Students’ Union visited the site on March 17 and expressed deep dismay over the distressing conditions in which the labourers are forced to work.

In this regard, the union appealed immediate intervention of the ALO in this matter and urged to conduct a thorough inspection of the project site. They also appealed to snsure that basic facilities such as safe drinking water, sanitation, and shelter are provided to meet acceptable living standards.

The union urged the ALO to implement robust safety protocols and health measures to protect the labourers, including effective dust control and provision of personal protective equipment.

They suggested that prompt action will not only ensure compliance with labour laws but also safeguard the health, dignity, and safety of the workers involved in this vital infrastructure project. The union look forward for immediate intervention and a positive resolution to these issues.

SVSU highlights issues concerning students
The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU), has also written to the ADC Seyochung HQ about the challenges faced by the students of St. Mary High School, Seyochung Town and GHS Seyochung Village, during its visit to the school on March 17.

The union has identified issues such as Aadhaar enrolment problem, suggestions for consideration and setting up of an Aadhar Enrolment Centre at Seyochung Town.

The union revealed that out of the total 493 students, at least 200 students do not possess Aadhar cards at St. Mary High School Seyochung Town and out of total 30 students, at least 24 students’ do not possess Aadhar cards at Government High School Seyochung Village, which have further hindered their registration in the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (AAPAR) portal, thereby affecting their educational records and benefits.

While acknowledging the authority’s recent efforts in addressing these issues, the union proposed the following suggestions to further alleviate the difficulties faced by the students and the community.

The union felt that the establishment of a permanent Aadhar Enrolment Centre would significantly ease the enrolment process and ensure that students and residents have better access to essential documentation.

They requested the intervention of ADC Seyochung HQ in addressing these pressing concerns for the benefit of the students and the community at large.
