‘Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu’ conducted in Wokha

DIMAPUR: Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Wokha division, in collaboration with the District Administration, Wokha, conducted the “Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu” campaign on June 1 and 5, 2026.
The five day campaign began with a sensitization programme for Gram Panchayats and lead facilitators on the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026 and Supreme Court directives, held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha. Participants were briefed on four way segregation of waste, roles and responsibilities of rural local bodies, and monitoring mechanisms under the new SWM Rules.
Activities during the campaign include site visits and functionality assessments of assets by village functionaries, identification of bulk waste generators in rural areas, awareness generation programmes, plantation drives and cleanliness initiatives.
The campaign concluded with a special Gram Sabha on June 5, marking the culmination of the district wide initiative.
