Swachhatta Hi Seva launched in Tuensang

The‘Swachhatta Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is service) movement was launched by Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, L. Jamithung Lotha on Saturday at Government Higher Secondary School Tuensang organized by DWSM, PHED Tuensang and sponsored by WSSO PHED Kohima.
In his speech, Jamithung said that 80% of the people in Nagaland had improved personal and home hygiene but lamented that people still lacked the knowledge of segregating biodegradable and non-degradable wastes, which becomes the main source of environmental pollution. He encouraged students to cultivate the habits of segregating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, some of which can be recycled or used for other purposes.
He encouraged students saying that “cleanliness is service”, hence to give proper service to the community, one should be responsible, dedicated and make cleanliness as a culture.
Er. Subonyanger, executives engineer PHED, Tuensang division, in his keynote address, highlighted the objectives of “Swacchhatta Hi Seva” movement saying that it is a nationwide movement in India.
The main objective of the campaign is to get involved with the community services to clean village, schools, public places, offices etc. and also to create awareness on sustainable sanitation. He also highlighted some of the IEC activities in Tuensang district.
The program was chaired by IEC consultant PHED Tuensang, Ashale Seb; pastor, Tenyimi Baptist Church Tuensang, Sentilo Seb, invoked God’s blessing for the program.
