Sechü Zubza Taxi Drivers’ Union (SZTDU) carried out a social work along the stretch of National Highway 29 on Thursday.
The volunteers filled up the potholes for a stretch of nearly 4 kms from Classic Club Waiting Shed till Sechü Zubza jurisdiction, bordering Kiruphema Village.
The continuous downpour during the past couple of weeks has worsened the condition of the road, and only added to the woes and misery of travellers.
SZTDU president, Zhangusatuo Rhatsu, said the members decided to repair the road as it was worsening and the commuters were finding it difficult to ply the road.
Rhatsu said that since the National Highway passes through the village, the union felt that they should be the first amongst the Nagas to take care of the road.
He also opined that public should also start contributing for the development instead of expecting government to initiate everything that concerns the public.
The social work was the first of its kind organized by SZTDU, where 25 members, out of 38 took part in the social work, informed SZTDU secretary Zakiemelie Khwakhrie.
