In the wake of expiry of its 20-day ultimatum served on the state government to resume construction works along Namtola-Mon section of NH-702, the Tizit Area Students’ Union (TASU) Friday announced that the house has resolved to impose indefinite blockade on the NH-702 starting from November 5, 2018.
In a press release, TASU president, T Noklem Konyak, and general secretary, Phoanei Konyak, stated that the decision to impose blockade was taken at an emergency meeting with the federating units and village council chairman from villages under Tizit area on November 2, 2018. TASU said that even the expiry of ultimatum the responsible authority has failed to speed up the construction of Namtola-Mon (NM) Road NH-702. Besides, it said there has been no response from the government regarding construction of Inter-state Connectivity (ISC) road and four RCC T-BEAM Bridges along the same road. According to the union, the house resolved that blockade would not be lifted unless the responsible department and contractors start the work. Further, TASU said that house has decided to intensify the protest and resort to disallow functioning of government mechanism under Tizit if needed.
During the proposed blockade, the union, however, stated that administration, institutions, para military and police personnel on duties and medical would be exempted. TASU cautioned that the department and the concern contractors would be solely held responsible if any untoward incidents occurred during the period of blockade.
