TASU marks Martyr’s Day with drugs awareness

DIMAPUR: Tizit Area Students’ Union (TASU) organised a “drugs awareness programme” in collaboration with the Health and Family Welfare Department, to commemorate TASU Martyr’s Day under the theme “War against Drug”.
According to a press release, the programme was attended by students from Government Higher Secondary and M Jon Higher Secondary schools, members of Konyak Union Tizit Unit, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK), public leaders and others. Resource persons Dr. Nokyat, MO OST Mon, and Dr. Ngopelo Keviechu, DPO (CD-II) Mon, highlighted the growing menace of drug abuse and stressed the need for collective efforts to build a drug free society. They also spoke on the spread and adverse impact of HIV and AIDS among youth.
Addressing the gathering, Nokmao Konyak, president TASU, recalled the sacrifice of one of its officials who laid down his life in the fight against drugs and social evils.
He said the martyr’s sacrifice continues to inspire TASU in its mission to spread awareness and protect the younger generation from substance abuse.
TASU reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against drugs and stated it would continue to conduct awareness programmes and social initiatives for the welfare of society. The union also urged authorities, civil society organisations, churches and the public to actively participate in strengthening the fight against drugs to build a better future and a drug free society.
