Taxi Union undertakes road repair near Wokha Civil Hospital

CorrespondentWOKHA, AUG 22 (NPN)

In response to prolonged neglect, the Taxi Union operating along the stretch connecting the Local Daily Market to Dr. Motsüo Memorial District Hospital (Civil Hospital), Wokha, voluntarily carried out repair work on August 22 to improve the road condition.
The stretch, which has reportedly remained in poor condition for a long time, is marked by deep potholes and uneven surfaces, posing risks to commuters including patients, students, and the general public.
President of the Taxi Union, Tumchobemo Kikon, stated that the road holds strategic importance as it serves not only the district hospital but also the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), a college, and the District Sub-Jail. Despite its significance, he lamented the lack of financial support from the government.
He informed that the union has been pooling its limited resources annually to maintain the road, even as members struggle to earn their livelihood through daily wages. He expressed disappointment over the continued oversight of such a vital route.
Meanwhile, sources from the contractor community revealed that the Department of Urban Development had sanctioned the road repair in June.
However, persistent rainfall has delayed the commencement of work. Once weather conditions improve, the project is expected to begin.
