
Tuensang DLSA (TDLSA) conducted legal awareness seminar on road safety at SP conference hall at Tuensang on May 26.
A press release from NSLSA public relations assistant stated that, Neiko Kanuo, CJM & secretary TDLSA in his keynote address encouraged the participants to grab the opportunity to learn and clarify any doubts and also highlighted the activities undertaken by legal services.
UBSI Imli Madang OC Traffic highlighted on the basic traffic rules. Arenbo Peter, DTO Tuensang underscored that India has one of the highest accident cases in the world, with 400 accidents daily and in the context of Nagaland 54 accidents occurred, 30 died and 70 injured in 2015 alone. He also highlighted the four pillars of road safety- Engineering, Enforcement, Emergency service and Education.
He stated that causes of accidents due to defective of vehicle is 5%, 15% is due to bad road, 80% percent of accident fault of the driver. He therefore urged the drivers to change and be more careful by avoiding drunken driving, rash and negligent driving, over speeding and use of phone so that even if not 80% atleast 50% of accidents can be saved.
He also stated that according to experts and doctors that drunken driving increases 2.2 times chances of accident and 4.4 times chances of accident due to use of cell phone as it decreases reaction time, effects vision, effects tracking, effects concentration, impairs comprehension, lacks coordination. He also stated that correct use of seatbelt reduces the risk of death in a crash by 61 % therefore, he urged the participants to follow the road safety precautions and save a life.
Soteth Anar, panel lawyer TDLSA, spoke on the topic Motor vehicle Act and Motor Vehicle Accident Claim Tribunal by highlighting various provisions of law.
