In an effort to reach out to the communities affected by the February 27 fire outbreak at the Mao Market, Kohima, The Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA) provided financial assistance to affected women vendors and traders.
A press release by tEA informed that the association in partnership with the Caring Friends, Mumbai provided financial assistance to 23 women, varying amounts dependent on their needs.
The assistance was handed over in a solemn programme at tEA head office, Kohima which began with a prayer by City Church Pastor, Rev. Kedo Peseyie.
Meanwhile, the association said many of the women beneficiaries were widows, single mothers and sole breadwinners of their families, who are facing difficult times with their livelihoods completely crushed by the fire accident.
tEA said the accident, which could have been avoided had the fire department been more prepared, has drawn the attention of people from all walks of life from within and outside the state.
It said the accident has also thrown light on the unpreparedness of the concerned departments to face calamities and disasters.
