Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) on Wednesday announced its decision to launch indefinite agitation starting February 2, 2024 over the failure of the school education department to respond positively to its ultimatum.
It may be mentioned that YAA had on January 18, 2024 served an ultimatum on the depart¬ment of school education to redress the shortage of teachers in government schools across the Yimkhiung jurisdiction within 14 days.
YAA through its media cell has, however, expressed regret that the department “failed to give any positive and practical response/action within the given time frame.”
Therefore, YAA said it was compelled to start an indefinite agitation in Yimkhiung jurisdiction until the department redressed the shortage of teachers. To mark the beginning of an indefinite agitation, YAA said a public rally would be held at Shamator town, Chessore town, and Pungro town on February 2, 2024.
During the period of the indefinite agitation, the YAA informed that no government offices would be allowed to open/function except NST, administration, home/police, paramilitary, medical departments. Further, YAA said that no schools would be allowed to open/function except for HSLC & HSSLC related classes and exam centres.
YAA would also restrict movement of government-registered vehicles except those belonging to NST, administration, home/police, paramilitary, medical departments and HSLC & HSSLC exam related duties.
The apex Yimkhiung student body also informed that no tourists and researchers would be allowed to visit or stay in the Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary, Mt. Saramati (Thanamir), Stone Caves (Salomi and Mimi villages), Tizü (Moya-Amikioro village), and Chedzü Waterfall (Hakkomute).
However, YAA said that Likimro Hydro Electrical Project (LHEP) would not be allowed to operate/function.
During the period of an indefinite agitation, YAA cautioned that should there be any untoward incidents, the department would solely be responsible.
Meanwhile, YAA has directed all its federating units and members to strictly enforce the bandh within their respective areas and also be prepared for any eventuality.
