Teachers Day Award: ANSTA wants fair selection

Even as the selection process for the Teachers Day Award 2018 is underway, the All Nagaland School Teachers Association (ANSTA) has asserted that only the deserving teachers should be given Teachers Day Awards as the award was instituted with the sole purpose of honouring teachers. Teachers Day Awards are given away to teachers on September 5 every year.

In a press release, ANSTA president, Ponchulo Wanth, and general secretary, Visato Koso, listed ten eligibility criteria to be taken into consideration while selecting teachers for the prestigious award. 

The association reminded all the recommending authorities to follow the below mentioned criteria so as to make a fair selection of the teachers for the award: 

The heads such as DEO/SDEO/Principal/HM/AHM etc, should recommend only the name of the deserving teachers. 

The academic performance of the student in particular subject of the teacher be recommended for the award should be satisfactory for at least 3 consecutive years.

All the necessary formats relating to award should be filled-up by the concerned heads and not by the teachers concerned. The award should be a surprised gift to the teacher concerned.

The teachers of the Nil results should not be recommended for it. The Proxy, Substitute, Attached teachers should not be recommended. 

Any teacher(s) found campaigning/lobbying in the any form whatsoever either politically/ through any other influence for his/her selection should be disqualified. One has to serve for at least 10 years on continuous service 

The teacher awardee should be a role model and a source of inspiration for others. Any teacher(s) being recommended without fulfilling the aforesaid criteria should be dropped/rejected from the final state level selection.
