Technology clinic workshop on food processing held in Guwahati

DIMAPUR, OCT 18 (NPN)

The Industries and Commerce Department and the Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (NIDC) under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) successfully organized 10 Technology Clinics on food processing titled “Innovation in Food Processing” comprising of 2 batches from October 13 to 18, 2025, at the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management – Thanjavur (NIFTEM- T) Liaison Office, Guwahati.

Directorate of industries & commerce, government of Nagaland, Er. Keneirienuo T Zatsu, stated that the technology clinics brought together 60 entrepreneurs from across Nagaland offering a dynamic blend of technical sessions and hands-on demonstrations aimed at enhancing entrepreneurial capabilities in the food processing sector.
Dr. Goutam Das, Assistant Professor at NIFTEM-T LO, Guwahati, took the Clinic 1 session where he delivered an orientation session outlining the current landscape of food processing in India and the Northeast. He emphasized opportunities for value addition in high-value GI crops, underutilized fruits such as wood apple, star fruit, and star gooseberry, and products derived from
Cassava, bamboo shoot, mushroom and cereal-based bakery items.
Clinics 2-10 were led by Simanta Neog, Prostuti Chakravorty and Udipta Hazarika. The clinics covered hands-on experience on pickle making, vegetable dehydration and candy preserves; preparation of pasta and noodle; preparation of ice-cream, spice dehydration and chilli processing (chili flakes, powdered spices); spice-based pastes and chutneys (chili pickle, ginger-garlic paste).
The participants also received practical exposure to food-grade equipment such as electrical tray driers, steam jacketed kettles, ball mills, vacuum sealers, fruit pulpers, industrial grade refrigerator, noodle and pasta making machine and Fiber Extractors. The training also included guidance on preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to support future entrepreneurial ventures.
The programme concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, reinforcing the commitment to fostering innovation, value addition, and inclusive growth within the MSME ecosystem of the Northeast region.
RAMP is a World Bank-supported scheme of the Government of India aimed at improving access to markets, access to credit, and capacity building of MSMEs. In Nagaland, where MSMEs are gradually modernizing, access to advanced machinery and technology is vital for maintaining competitiveness. The Technology Clinics under RAMP bring together leading experts and technocrats to equip entrepreneurs with practical skills and technical know-how needed for enterprise upgradation.
The initiative plays a crucial role in supporting post COVID-19 recovery efforts, enabling entrepreneurs and MSMEs in Nagaland to adopt emerging technologies and modernize their businesses to remain competitive in an evolving economic landscape.
