An awareness programme on teen pregnancy was held at Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha, targeting students from Classes 8 to 12 on July 18.
According to DIPR report, the event organised by Wokha District Administration, Department of Social Welfare, and District Hub for Empowerment of Women under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Mission Shakti), saw participation from over 350 students. Medical Officer of PHC Chukitong, Dr. Thungdeno P. Murry, spoke on the physical, emotional, and societal impact of teen pregnancy and urged youth to make informed choices. He called on male students to support a safe and respectful environment.
Dr. Wonjano E Enny, DHEW Wokha, highlighted the role of various women-centric schemes including Sakhi-One Stop Centre. Elonbeni M Odyuo from Child Helpline Wokha briefed students about the 1098 emergency helpline. Sanitary pads and stationery items were distributed at the end of the programme.
