Tehok FC from Mon emerged as the winner of the 7th edition of late Capt N Kengurüse, MVC, Memorial Football Tournament 2023, held at IG Stadium here on Thursday.
In the final match, Tehok defeated Western Sumi Sports Association (WSSA) 2-1 and secured the title. Tehok’s Nisede scored the first goal in the 23rd minute of the game, which was shortly equalised by WSSA’s Hevika in the 36th minute.
The scored remained a draw for most part of the game, but during the added time, Samson scored the winning goal for Tehok. The tournament began on November 1 with a total of 16 teams from across Nagaland competing in a display of exceptional sportsmanship, skill, and determination. The journey to the final was marked by intense matches, showcasing the finest talent in the region.
The closing ceremony was held with IGAR (N) Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera, gracing the occasion as the chief guest. He commended the spirit and dedication of all the participating teams, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork in nurturing young talent.
Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera also expressed his appreciation for the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army who made the tournament a resounding success.
The event concluded with a grand award ceremony, where the winners were presented with trophies, along with individual awards recognizing outstanding players and coaches beside cash prizes worth Rs. 4,25,000.
Individual prizes included Best Goalkeeper (Homuka, Western Sumi SA), Best Midfielder
(Sinenlo, Western Sumi SA), Best defender (Lironthung Lotha, Tehok FC Mon), Highest scorer
(Weliso, Liangmai FC Peren) and Player of the tournament (Neisede, Tehok FC Mon).
