DIMAPUR: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) held its orientation programme 2026 on Thursday at the Central Auditorium, welcoming new students to their academic journey with guidance on education, career development and the responsibilities of young learners.
The programme was graced by minister of Higher Education & Tourism, Government of Nagaland, Temjen Imna Along, as chief guest. His presence added significance to the event, which was designed to inspire and motivate students as they begin their studies at USTM.
Addressing the gathering, Temjen Imna Along emphasised the transformative role of education in shaping individuals and society. He encouraged students to remain committed to learning, develop confidence and character and make meaningful use of their time at the university.
He further highlighted the importance of preparing young people to contribute positively to society, the region and the nation. “USTM is truly a centre of traditions, oneness and unity. The whole Northeast is at USTM,” he remarked, underscoring the institution’s role in fostering inclusivity and unity.
Delivering the welcome address, chancellor of USTM and chairman of ERDF, Mahbubul Hoque, extended a warm welcome to the minister and the newly enrolled students.
The orientation programme served as a platform to familiarise students with the values and opportunities of university life, reinforcing the importance of holistic development alongside academic excellence.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by vice chancellor of USTM, Prof. G. D. Sharma.
Established in 2011, USTM is the first state private university in the field of Science and Technology in North East India. Accredited with an ‘A Grade’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its first cycle of assessment in 2021, USTM continues to uphold excellence in teaching, research, innovation and community engagement, while promoting inclusivity, sustainability and regional development.
