DIMAPUR, JUL 31 (NPN): District Magistrate Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, has ordered temporary closure of the affected stretch of National Highway-2 at Phesama sinking zone on August 2, 2026 from 6am to 6pm to facilitate restoration works and ensure public safety.
According to the order, the closure would affect the section between Chainage Km 191+840 and Km 192+100 along the Kohima-Mao stretch of NH-2 due to active sliding of debris from the adjoining hill slopes in the Phesama Sinking area.
During the closure period, all light motor vehicles (LMVs) would be diverted via Phesama–Kisama/Kigwema route through Rhododendron Resort for two-way traffic.
For heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) bound for Manipur, the administration has advised to travel via Peren district. In emergency situations, the Kohima-Jessami and Chakhabama-Zunheboto roads could be used, subject to prescribed load limits.
The district magistrate sought cooperation during the temporary closure in the interest of public safety and the smooth execution of restoration works.
