DIMAPUR, AUG 3 (NPN): District Magistrate Kohima, B Henok Buchem, has ordered the temporary closure of a stretch of National Highway-2 (Kohima-Mao section) passing through Phesama sinking area on August 4, 2026 from 8am to 6pm to facilitate restoration work and ensure public safety.
The order was issued following a communication from the NHIDCL, PMU Jakhama, which reported intermittent falling of boulders from the adjoining hill slopes along the affected stretch between Chainage Km 191+840 and Km 192+100.
During the closure period, the movement of heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) would remain suspended.
For light motor vehicles (LMVs), traffic will be diverted via Kisama-Kigwema through Phesama Rhododendron Resort for two-way movement.
Meanwhile, Manipur-bound HMVs have been advised to travel via Peren district. In case of emergencies, the Kohima-Jessami and Chakhabama-Zunheboto roads may be used, subject to permissible load limits.
District Magistrate has appealed to the public to extend full cooperation during the temporary closure to enable the smooth execution of restoration works and ensure the safety of commuters.
