Renowned Naga writer late Dr. Temsula Ao is among the Indian authors featured in a new Class 9 English textbook introduced by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
The new Class 9 English textbook called “Kaveri” has been prepared in line with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 and aims to increase the representation of Indian authors while streamlining the syllabus.
Apart from Temsula Ao, the book features works by noted Indian writers including Subramania Bharati, Sudha Murty, Rabindranath Tagore and Mitra Phukan.
NCERT has reduced the number of English textbooks for Class 9 from two to one and cut the total number of texts from 29 to 16. The new book will replace the earlier textbooks Beehive and Moments used in schools.
