A massive fire broke out in Moreh Ward No. 5 (Pangal Leikai) at around 11:10 AM on October 25, reducing at least ten houses and their belongings to ashes. The affected area is located near Indo-Myanmar Border Pillar No. 79, close to Indo-Myanmar Gate No. 2.
Fortunately, no human casualties were reported. Initial reports suggest that the fire allegedly began at a house belonging to the families of Ethem Khan, Ayub Khan, Tomba, and Jaberuddin, before spreading to nearby houses. Commercial goods and personal belongings stored in the homes were completely destroyed, resulting in significant property loss.
Emergency response teams, including the Manipur Fire Service (Moreh Sub-Station), Moreh police and police commando personnel, Assam Rifles, and local residents, rushed to the site to contain the fire. Three fire tenders and portable pumps were deployed, and teams from the Tamu Fire Service (Myanmar) later joined efforts. After hours of coordinated firefighting, authorities successfully prevented the blaze from spreading further.
While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, initial reports indicate that a short circuit may have triggered the incident. Authorities are still assessing the extent of damages, which are estimated to be worth several lakh rupees.
A case has been registered at the Moreh Police Station, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause and full impact of the fire.
