Tenyimia women bodies affirm stand on NM Act

Apex women organization of the Tenyimia tribes of Nagaland– Angami Women Organization, Chakhesang Mother’s Association, Zeliangrong Mipui Organization, Pochury Mother’s Association and Rengma Mother’s Association– have resolved to support the stand of their respective apex tribal bodies on repealing Nagaland Municipal Act (NMA), 2001.
The resolution was adopted at consultative meeting of the apex women organizations of Tenyimia tribes of Nagaland at APO Hall, Kohima on July 6, 2023.
The meeting had in-depth discussion on NMA 2001 for women in Urban local bodies and its implications on the womenfolk and the society at large, stated the resolution signed
by AWO president Neilhuzono Nagi, AWO vice president Nosezole Seleyi, CMA president Zhonelu Tunyi, CMA general secretary Kezevinuo Krome, RMA vice president R.Wasu, RMA general secretary Elizabeth Kemp, ZMO president Apeuna Iheilung, ZMO general secretary Aluili Hegui, PMA finance secretary Tvüsesü and PMA member Sierhetshu Phoji.
The signatories said that Tenyimia womenfolk have always stood for peace and prosperity in the society and affirmed that anything that infringed their rights would not be allowed.
Therefore, the Tenyimia women bodies women have resolved to strongly support the stand of their Tenyimia tribal apex bodies—Angami public Organization, Chakhesang Public Organization, Rengma Hoho Pochury Hoho and Nagaland Zeliang People Organization—to repeal NM Act 2001.
Further, the women bodies resolved to appeal the responsible authority to include women while drafting the New Municipal Act by the Nagaland government.
