Tetso College organised a webinar talk on “Israel’s policy of surgical strike and targeted killings” on July 20 with associate professor, Dr. S. Krishnan from Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National University and an expert in defense and strategic studies, international relations, US foreign policy and intelligence & counterterrorism to be the guest speaker.
A press release by Tetso College stated that, Dr. Krishnan spoke about the reasons regarding Israel’s policy of surgical strike and targeted killings. Dr. Krishnan feels that like every democracy, Israel’s chief priority is to safeguard its population, its survival and its national security aspects. Citing the examples of Entebbe incident, attack on Osiraq (Iraq) Nuclear reactor 1981 or Operation of Wrath of God (1972), Dr. Krishnan talked about the methods of Israeli surgical strike and that of targeted killing. He made a distinction between surgical strikes and a targeted killing. He also spoke about the legality of surgical strikes and targeted killing in the context of the rules and laws of war, sovereignty and jurisdiction aspects and Geneva Convention. Dr. Krishnan also made comparative analysis on surgical strike of israel along with india, us and other countries.
The webinar talk introduces the special issue’s question of whether and how the current transformation of targeted killing is transforming the global international order and provides the conceptual ground for the individual contributions to the special issue. It also conceptualizes targeted killing and introduces a typology of targeted-killing acts on the basis of their legal and moral legitimacy.
The webinar was moderated by Dr. Aniruddha Babar, an expert in international law and attended by students from different parts of India, faculty members and others.
