Minister for School Education and SCERT, Nyiewang Konyak has said hotel management training was the most valuable opportunity to get ahead in resort and hospitality industry.
Addressing the inauguration of the first batch of three years bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management and Catering Technology Monday in Dimapur, minister expressed confidence that by attending Hotel Management College, graduates could obtain a rewarding position in the hospitality arena while adding that jobs in the field of hotel management were generally fast- paced that required a solid background in customer service.
While congratulating the 30 newly admitted students fully supported and sponsored by the government of Nagaland under the Chief Minister’s Corpus Fund, Konyak pointed out the need for quality education in areas of hospitality management ecological tourism, catering and applied nutrition for enabling the students from Nagaland to compete in the global competitive environment. He also said chief minister who had released rupees 15 lakhs to job oriented sector for academic session 2008-2009 for 30 students was highly praiseworthy.
Secretary of school education, government of Nagaland E. Ezung while explaining the urgent need of providing training to the thousands of teachers working in different schools in Nagaland suggested for signing a memorandum of understanding between the state government and TGOUN for conducting programmes for strengthening the cause of primary and secondary education.
Former director of higher education, government of Nagaland L. Edward Lotha who is also the state government nominee in the governing council in TGOUN was appreciative of the master plan envisaged by the university for conducting different vocational and job oriented programmes with full funding support from the World Institution Building Programme, New Delhi.
Another state government nominee in TGOUN, Imrong Imchen thanked the Pro Chancellor and Plenipotentiary Priya Ranjan Trivedi for the bold steps taken by him in launching employment centric programmes for the benefit of Naga youth by involving the state government.
TGOUN Pro Chancellor, Dr. P.R. Trivedi while delivering his speech announced that more job oriented programmes on disaster management, remote sensing, hospital administration, intellectual property rights and bioinformatics would be launched in near future to preparing a competent cadre of young professionals in North-East and Nagaland in particular.
Earlier Imotemsu Ao, Director, TGOU while welcoming the guests and the students assured that the necessary and required infrastructure would be provided for quality oriented teaching of subjects like hotel management, catering technology, house keeping, front office management, hotel engineering etc.
